Am I Suitable for a Tummy Tuck?
Sometimes exercise and diet are not enough, and even slim people may have a tummy that is sagging and loose, caused by pregnancy, weight loss, genetics or just old age. A tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty to give it the medical name) can help you achieve a firmer, flatter stomach by removing excess fat and loose skin.
Both men and women, if they are in good health, can benefit from a tummy tuck if they want to tighten their stomach. However, it is important to note that a tummy tuck is not a method used to lose weight and it won’t remove stretch marks. Consult with a doctor before booking treatment if you're still unsure whether a tummy tuck is right for you.
How Long Does the Tummy Tuck Procedure Take?
The tummy tuck procedure is major surgery and can take between one and five hours to complete. A complete or partial tummy tuck may be performed, depending on your circumstances:
- As part of a complete abdominoplasty, the surgeon will cut your abdomen from hip to hip, removing fat and loose skin, as well as contouring the muscle and tissue. Your belly button may be repositioned and you may need drainage tubes inserted into the wound for a few days.
- Partial abdominoplasty is performed if your fat deposits are below the naval and doesn’t usually involve moving your belly button.
What Is the Recovery Time for a Tummy Tuck?
Immediately after surgery, you will experience swelling, discomfort and pain, which will be eased with prescribed medication. You will be advised to get out of bed as soon as possible and to walk around, as gentle exercise speeds up the recovery process. A few days' bed rest is usually advised. Your stitches will be removed between five and seven days after surgery.
Compression garments are usually worn under your clothes for a few weeks to prevent blood clots. Most people return to work one or two weeks after surgery. You will need to take it easy and not do any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for up to six weeks, to prevent reopening your wounds.
Why Should I Choose Bangkok for a Tummy Tuck?
You’re probably aware that Bangkok is one of the world's most-traveled medical tourism destinations. Patients began coming here for surgery at the turn of the century because of the low prices and, more important, the high quality of care. And Bangkok certainly has its fair share of excellent quality healthcare facilities: more than two-dozen clinics and hospitals in the city have achieved Joint Commission International accreditation–a key signal of excellence in healthcare standards.
Good quality healthcare includes a number of different criteria, which taken together can turn an average experience into a great one. The major indicator is the expertise and professionalism of the teams of medical and ancillary staff. Thailand’s staff are trained to the highest levels and include doctors who are recognized by international bodies within their respective fields.
The facilities within the hospital is another–and this includes the technology, as well as services tailored to the comfort and well-being of its patients. Thailand scores highly on both counts, with patient rooms and waiting areas designed for maximum comfort and convenience.
Many international patients find the experience of surgery in Bangkok to be efficient and delivered with a high standard of customer care they may not be accustomed to receiving at home.
