Rhinoplasty in Turkey

The ultimate guide to Rhinoplasty in Turkey

Last fact-checked: 25 November 2021

Are you seeking a different look to your nose? Then take action without breaking the bank by undergoing rhinoplasty surgery in Turkey.

This guide provides a rundown on how a nose job can help you, how to prepare, post-surgery considerations, travel tips and some pointers to some of our fully-verified partner clinics in cities like Istanbul and Antalya where you can find treatment for 50–70% less than in the UK or EU.

Why Should I Consider a Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Rhinoplasty, more commonly referred to informally as a nose job, is an invasive or minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used by surgeons to enhance the shape, size and trajectory of the nose

While normally performed for cosmetic reasons, rhinoplasty may also be required for medical problems such as sleep disturbances, nose disfigurement due to accidents or falls or congenital defects.

For cosmetic purposes, patients seek this surgery to alter the size or shape of their nose; for instance, to make it:

  • Larger or smaller

  • More aligned

  • Upturned

  • Aquiline (a more prominent bridge)

  • Sharper (often used by people of various ethnicities whose nose is flatter, bigger or both)

The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia; while generally a relatively quick procedure performed on an outpatient basis (meaning patients leave the same day), in some cases, especially those that involve general anaesthesia, you may require an overnight stay in the hospital for monitoring.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Changing your nose even slightly can give your face a whole new appearance, helping you achieve your desired look while boosting your confidence.

If you are unhappy with the shape, size or trajectory of your nose, it's possible to rectify things with this procedure (known medically as rhinoplasty surgery).

It is also important that patients:

  • Have realistic expectations as to what the surgery can and cannot do

  • Understand what the procedure entails

  • Are in good general health

  • Are able to stop smoking several weeks before and after surgery in order to avoid complications and promote healing

  • Are not recovering from any other surgery

Still not sure about your suitability? If you have an underlying health condition, ask your GP for an opinion or reach out to a member of our Customer Care Team; Medical Departures can put you in touch with rhinoplasty experts around the world who can provide a preliminary (online) assessment before you fly.

What Does the Procedure Entail?

As part of your rhinoplasty procedure, you will have a consultation with your surgeon to determine your goals. This consultation may include a complete medical history as well as an examination.

You will also discuss with your physician the technique that will be used, such as the open or closed method:

  • With the closed rhinoplasty method, incisions will be hidden inside the nose. This technique is minimally invasive, although less dramatic alterations can be made with this method.

  • Alternatively, open rhinoplasty uses a small incision at the base of the nose, allowing the surgeon greater access and control of the bone and cartilage.

Typically, the surgeon will begin by making incisions and lifting the skin covering the bridge of the nose.

Depending on the goals of the procedure, it may be necessary for your doctor to use cartilage grafts or even remove cartilage or bone

If you have a deviated septum, your surgeon may also need to straighten projections inside the nose.

At the conclusion of the procedure, the incisions will be closed and the skin redraped. The total time in surgery is normally one or two hours, although this can be more for complex cases.

Post-Surgery Recovery

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you will be able to go home (or to your hotel) after you are awake and have recovered. You will have bandages and probably splints and you will need someone with you at least for a day or two.

While your nose is still sore immediately after surgery, you may also have difficulty eating hard foods, so make sure that you eat soft foods till you feel that you are more comfortable. You will need to take extra care of yourself for around two to three weeks and may find some of your daily activities are somewhat restricted.

Rhinoplasty Risks and Safety Considerations

Before undertaking any plastic surgery, it is important to understand potential adverse side effects and overall risks.

Aside from potential complications arising from the administration of anaesthesia, risks associated with nose job surgery include:

  • Changes in skin sensation or discolouration
  • Infection
  • Swelling
  • Unsatisfactory appearance
  • Undesirable scarring
  • Anaesthesia risks
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Slow wound healing or scarring
