Why Consider a Neck Lift?

While you can now undergo a range of minimally or non-invasive esthetic procedures to your facial area, to make a dramatic difference to wrinkles, fat deposits, excess skin, and double chins, surgery in the form of a neck lift is also worth considering.

A neck lift can be performed as a standalone procedure or combined with other plastic surgeries like a facelift, brow lift, eye bag removal, rhinoplasty and others.

It can also be combined with facial contouring via liposuction, cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers and botox and others that will combat the signs of aging and make you look younger.

Why Consider a Neck Lift in Costa Rica?

As plastic surgery is not covered by insurance, it can be overwhelmingly expensive in North America. In Costa Rica, all kinds of medical procedures are much more reasonably priced. Additionally, it has developed into a popular medical tourism hub thanks to the thousands of medical tourists who go there particularly from the US and Canada.

Travel and hotel costs are also reasonable; North Americans can easily enter the country without having to apply for a visa beforehand. It is serviced by two major international airports, Juan Santamaria International Airport (close to San Jose) and Daniel Obuder International Airport in Liberia.

This beautiful Central American country attracts tourists interested in adventure and eco-tourism. It boasts cloud forests, parks, natural resorts, volcanoes and all types of water-based activities like diving, snorkeling, rafting, sport fishing, whale-watching tours and more.

Numerous volcanoes, some dormant and some active. Irazu, Poas, Arenal, Tenorio, Miravalles, Orosi and Turrialba are just some of the volcanoes that you can view in their natural settings across the country.

Costa Rica is also home to many endangered and unique species of wildlife, with proportionately huge biodiversity of plant life, animals, mammals, birds and insects. UNESCO World Heritage Sites are also of interest to international visitors, including parks and mysterious stone spheres dating back to pre-Colombian times.

Note: Do always consult with your surgeon regarding activities you should avoid doing following surgery; our advice in the case of a neck lift is to get your sightseeing out of the way beforehand, taking time to rest and heal before traveling back home. And always stay out of the sun until your wounds have fully healed.

How Long Does a Neck Lift Take and What Is the Approximate Recovery Period?

You can undergo either a traditional or limited incision procedure, depending on the condition of your neck and skin. Sometimes fat must be removed, tissue re-positioned and muscles manipulated. Excess skin is also removed.

An open neck lift will yield more dramatic results, whereas the limited incision treatment will help you only if you don’t need too much work. Both surgeries are usually performed under general anesthesia.

The time taken will range from one to three hours. Although usually an outpatient procedure, you may be asked to stay overnight in the hospital for monitoring.

After the surgery, it should be noted that:

  • Your neck will feel tight and probably numb.
  • You may have drains along with bandages.
  • You will have to keep your head elevated and you will be advised not to use icepacks.
  • You can expect a recovery period of around two weeks, but it can take several months for the swelling to subside and the final results to be apparent.

How Much Can I Save on the Cost of a Neck Lift in Costa Rica?

In the US, neck lift surgery will cost an average of USD $10,873 (CAD14,537, £8,782, €9,841, AUD14,110, NZD14,805). In Costa Rica, you will pay significantly less, normally around 60% to 75% less.
