Microdermabrasion in Bangkok

The ultimate guide to Microdermabrasion in Bangkok

Last fact-checked: 15 December 2020

Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenation technique that effectively improves the look of your skin by exfoliating the outer layer. The result? A brighter, healthier and younger-looking you.

It works for all skin types on fine lines, acne scars, blocked pores and sun damage to create a healthy glow and clear skin.

Am I Suitable for Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a softer form of dermabrasion, with less downtime following the procedure. Unlike dermabrasion, which is not recommended for dark skin as it can lead to scarring, microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types.

This painless skin treatment can help with blemishes, sunspots and fine lines, as well as improving skin texture for a youthful, healthy glow.

If you have skin lesions, open sores or other medical conditions, such as a herpes breakout, you may have to wait until these have cleared up or been treated before microdermabrasion can be carried out. We recommend consulting with a doctor or dermatologist back home before you book treatment abroad.

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Microdermabrasion works by spraying tiny exfoliating crystals onto the skin that remove dead cells; in turn, this stimulates the growth of collagen–the protein building block of healthy skin, bones, muscles and other tissues.

It is sometimes combined with a light chemical peel (also available in Thailand) for greater effect.

What Is the Procedure for Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is performed using either of these two methods:

  • Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion: a diamond-tipped handpiece is used to gently exfoliate dead skin cells which are then sucked up, like a vacuum. This type of microdermabrasion is safer to use than crystal microdermabrasion when treating the area around the eyes.

  • Crystal Microdermabrasion: small crystals are blasted onto the surface of the skin; this gently polishes the dead skin cells off, which are then vacuumed using a specialist tool.

What Is the Recovery Time for Microdermabrasion?

Recovery time is minimal, one of the major benefits of the procedure. Apart from slight swelling and redness, you will be able to undertake your normal activities straight after the procedure, although don't head straight for the beach to top up your tan, as your skin will be particularly sensitive to sunlight. Use a high SPF moisturizer to prevent damage to your new skin.

Why Should I Choose Bangkok for Microdermabrasion Treatment?

Bangkok boasts a wealth of high-quality clinics offering microdermabrasion treatments. If you are on a business trip or holiday, it is one of the less invasive procedures you can have for rejuvenating the texture of your skin. The minimal downtime allows you to spend leisure time in the city... or venturing further afield to the southern islands or culturally-rich north.

You are probably aware that Bangkok is not only one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, but also a prime destination for high-quality surgical, cosmetic, health and beauty treatments. Facilities offer procedures that cost considerably less to international visitors than the prices they’d pay at home, while customer care and patient satisfaction rank particularly high here as well.

The Benefits of Using Medical Departures

As with any cosmetic procedure, we suggest that you perform a little research yourself. Find out what you can about microdermabrasion to see if it is something that offers you the results you desire. Part of the process of receiving good treatment is to have realistic expectations and to know what questions to ask of your practitioner.

This is why it is important for you to carefully review any prospective clinics. Medical Departures has already most of this work for you, conducting background checks on all clinics and hospitals listed on our site. We pay onsite visits and verify credentials, including qualifications, international affiliations and professional memberships, as well as gathering and authenticating patient reviews.

You can check out all this information on our individual listings for free, with high-definition photos and virtual tours that allow you to see for yourself the quality and setting of the premises. Taken together, this information can help you make an informed choice with greater peace of mind prior to booking your trip.

Remember: no medical, cosmetic or surgical procedures can ever be guaranteed completely–we’re all individuals whose bodies react differently, and the people administering treatments are only human. Thus, some are better than others. Minimize the risk factor of having treatment abroad by booking through a trusted third-party site.

How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost in Bangkok Compared to Australia and New Zealand?

The cost of microdermabrasion in Bangkok is around half the price of treatment in Australia, for example. One session costs as little as AUD 50 (THB 1,000) at our partner clinics in Bangkok.

Although these savings won't merit flying all the way to Thailand for this treatment alone, it's worth considering if you're already planning a trip, or traveling for another surgical procedure.
