The ultimate guide to Laser Skin Resurfacing in Bangkok
Last fact-checked: 16 October 2019
Searching for laser skin resurfacing in Bangkok to give yourself that dewy glow? Medical Departures can help you find clinics that offer high-quality, professional services at prices substantially less than you’d pay at home.
Laser skin resurfacing can help to make your skin look healthier and younger by improving the look of lines, wrinkles and blotches caused by the natural aging process, sun damage or lifestyle factors (such as smoking). It may also help to refine scars.
As a non-invasive procedure with minimal downtime, it won’t interfere too much if you are holidaying in Bangkok or the rest of Thailand, as you’ll still be able to get out and about without the after-effects of treatment making your face look too scary!
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
There are several types of laser used in skin resurfacing:
- Ablative lasers are the most invasive, removing upper layers of skin to smooth and tighten the tissue underneath, thereby correcting pigmentation issues and smoothing wrinkles. They are used for acne scarring, skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.
- Non-ablative Lasers tighten underlying skin and stimulate collagen (the protein found in skin, bones, muscles etc) growth. They don’t remove the skin but they do cause mild heat damage, so the skin will naturally shed. They are best for fine lines and wrinkles.
- Fractional lasers can be ablative or non-ablative and they work by creating minute holes deep into the skin very close together. This creates tiny injuries, causing the skin to repair itself by forming a network of new skin. Good for lines, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, acne scars and sun damage.
Am I a Suitable Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Conditions which may benefit from laser skin resurfacing include:
- Pigmentation problems, such as age spots or blotchy skin
- Scarring
- Precancerous skin growths
- Wrinkles and loose skin around the mouth and lower eyelids
Why Should I Have Laser Skin Resurfacing in Bangkok?
Invariably you will want to ensure you attend a clinic with good credentials, as we are talking about treatment to your face here. No treatments are ever risk-free, so why subject yourself to the smallest possibility that the clinic or practitioner you choose is not up to the mark? Medical Departures understands the importance of this, so we have made it our business to do our own quality checks so you know when you book through us that the clinics and practitioners are of a good quality.
We do this by running some background checks, including litigation and criminal records. We personally visit clinics to look over their processes and the quality of the facilities, and qualifications, professional memberships and international affiliations are also verified. This information is freely available on our website, and with high-definition photos, patient reviews and virtual video tours, gives you information at your fingertips to help you make your own informed choice as to whether a clinic is right for you.
Bangkok has many facilities available, and the choice may be so overwhelming that you don’t know where to start. Start with Medical Departures and you won’t go too far wrong.

What is Involved in the Procedure for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The specific laser skin resurfacing treatment you have will be determined by a number of factors, including the problem you want to address, your skin type and the area to be treated.
Your clinician may give you a pre-treatment program that may include topical application of creams to your skin and/or oral medications. You will be given a local anesthetic for smaller areas, and you may have a general anesthetic for the whole face.
The procedure takes 30-45 minutes for a single part of your face, and up to two hours for a full-face treatment.
How Long Is the Recovery Time for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Swelling is normal after the treatment and if you have had treatment around your eyes your doctor may prescribe steroids. The day after treatment you will need to start cleaning the treated areas several times a day, and applying cream or ointment to prevent scabs forming. Itching or a sunburn sensation is also normal for up to three days, and skin may become dry and peel after five days. It takes between two and three weeks for the skin to heal, when you can begin wearing makeup again. Your face may remain slightly red for up to three months.
How Much Can I Save on Laser Skin Resurfacing in Bangkok Compared to Australia and New Zealand?
The cost of laser skin resurfacing in Bangkok averages around AUD $700, compared to AUD $1,300 in Australia.
