Laser Hair Removal in Thailand

The ultimate guide to Laser Hair Removal in Thailand

Last fact-checked: 7 November 2020

Still battling to remove unwanted hair? Perhaps it's time to turn to technology with affordable laser hair removal in Thailand.

Find out how you can do it with this Medical Departures guide.

Why Laser Hair Removal?

Say goodbye to outdated razors and waxing; yes, these methods work, but only temporarily. Shaving gives you stubble regrowth and in-growing hairs, and waxing is not only painful, but when the hair comes back, it may grow in the wrong direction, making it more difficult to remove the next time.

Laser hair removal treatment is a long-term commitment, but after six – 12 sessions your unwanted hair will be gone forever – a small price to pay, really, for a lifetime of being hair-free.

Why Undergo Laser Hair Removal Treatment in Thailand?

Laser hair removal is not a once-only treatment; it takes several sessions between one and two months apart, to finally get rid of the hair. If you are spending a considerable amount of time in the country, or you visit frequently, then it’s certainly worth exploring laser hair removal in Thailand as an option.

However, as with any medical or cosmetic procedure, you will have to find out all you can about the treatment. Although laser hair removal treatments have certainly improved in the last twenty or so years, they are not always effective for every situation. Do your own research beforehand so you have an idea of when laser hair removal is most effective, and when it is not. Generally, the darker the hair, the lighter the skin, the better.

This is why you should always check out your practitioner. Make sure they know what they’re doing and can answer all your questions. You should feel reassured by their answers – if you don’t, is it really worth spending a substantial amount of money?

Why Book with Medical Departures?

With Medical Departures you will always receive treatment from quality-checked clinics and practitioners. Reliability and trustworthiness are important and we do a number of background checks to ensure we feel safe at all of our verified clinics. We look at professional memberships and qualifications, medical and legal records and visit clinics to assess their hygiene and safety procedures.

Patient testimonials are also another important factor, so we publish these on our site, alongside high-definition clinic photographs so our patients can assess all the information, and make an informed decision for themselves.

What Is the Procedure for Laser Hair Removal?

There are various laser hair removal devices on the market, and a reliable practitioner should be able to advise and guide you as to what method is suitable for your hair and skin type.

Some, such as Alexandrite and pulsed light devices, are not effective for dark or tanned skin whereas Nd:YAG or Diode are.

Before treatment commences, the hair will be shaved or trimmed to provide maximum efficiency for the light to travel down the hair shaft to the root area. You will be made to wear protective eyewear and a test patch will usually be undertaken first. If your practitioner is happy with the results, and there are no adverse reactions, the treatment will commence.

What Is the Recovery Time for Laser Hair Removal?

You may experience a little discomfort from the treatment, rather than pain – it is like having an elastic band flicked at your skin. When it is finished you may have soothing cream or ice packs applied. There will be redness, which will subside over the course of the day.

Your practitioner will recommend when you come for your next treatment – about one to two months later. The hair growth will gradually become finer and less apparent after each treatment until it stops in entirety.

What Is the Cost of Laser Hair Removal in Thailand Compared to Australia and New Zealand?

Prices vary and are dependent upon the nature of the procedure, and the size of the areas, but for laser hair removal in Thailand costs start from around AUD $100 (US $70, CAD $90, £50 GBP, €60).

This can be compared to AUD $300 (US $200, CAD $2750, £130 GBP, €190) in Australia, for example.
