What Does the Treatment Involve?

The treatment can be carried out by either local or general anesthetic. The surgery involves removing the unwanted or excess tissue from the labia, either by cutting it away with a scalpel or with a laser. The remaining structure is stitched with fine dissolvable stitches.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

The procedure usually takes between one and two hours. You will have initial numbness and probably will experience some pain once the anesthetic has worn off. You will notice discoloration for a couple of weeks.

What About the Recovery from Labiaplasty?

You will probably be allowed to go home on the same day as your procedure–make sure you arrange for someone to drive you and to help you at home for a day or two. Do note the following considerations with regard to your recovery over the next few weeks and months:

• You may shower 48 hours after surgery. Ensure you keep incisions clean and dry, and wear feminine pads to absorb drainage – some oozing is expected.
• Do not soak in the bath until the stitches have dissolved.
• You should be able to go back to work and resume normal social activities after a week or two.
• Avoid any heavy lifting for a week and no sex or swimming for six weeks.
