The ultimate guide to Labiaplasty in Mexico
Last fact-checked: 13 August 2020
Find out about undergoing labiaplasty in Mexico, one of the procedures associated with vaginal rejuvenation whereby the folds of skin (the labia majora and the labia minora) surrounding the vagina are reduced in size.
Some women have this procedure due to pain or discomfort; others to correct damage during childbirth; and some simply because they feel self-conscious about the size or shape of the labia.
Regardless of your reason, heading south of the border to Mexico can save you 50%, which is at least $2,500 less than if you were to have the surgery in the US or Canada.
Why Undergo Labiaplasty in Mexico?
Mexico is a great destination to come to for any type of cosmetic surgery. Far from being the third-world country some may perceive, Mexico has some of the most up-to-date healthcare facilities in the world. This makes it an extremely popular destination for medical tourists seeking low cost, high-quality facilities and medical staff who are experts in their fields, couple with clinics that know how to serve the international patient.
Labiaplasty is a reasonably quick procedure, and in most cases performed as an outpatient. This means you won’t be required to stay overnight in hospital, and if you are worried about taking too much time either off work, or away from home, then you can be on your way home in no time at all.
Of course, Mexico has plenty of fabulous locations in which to stay if you decide to have a vacation, either before or after your surgery, and we can’t think of any reasons why you wouldn’t want to! Just do note that you will be restricted in terms of activities you can and cannot do following surgery (like swimming, trekking and other vigorous activities).
Why Book with Medical Departures?
You should, of course, always do some background checks on the clinics and surgeons. Very often surgeons in Mexico will have memberships of American boards, such as the American Board of Surgery and you can look up their details online. However, there are a lot of different medical and surgical boards, even in America, and it can get a little confusing pinpointing the right ones to look for. Booking through Medical Departures gives you that much-needed peace of mind as we already pre-check our doctors and clinics, listing qualifications, professional memberships and other useful information to help you choose.

What Does the Procedure for Labiaplasty Entail and How Long Does it Normally Take?
Labiaplasty can be carried out under general or local anesthetic.
The procedure essentially involves your surgeon removing excess or unwanted tissue either by laser or with a scalpel, and the remaining skin is stitched back together with dissolvable sutures. The operation generally takes one to two hours.
You can read about what the labiaplasty procedure entails in more detail here.
What Is the Recovery Time for Labiaplasty?
After the surgery you may experience some pain, stinging and discomfort, and there will be some discoloration which will wear off after a couple of weeks. You will normally be permitted to go back to your hotel an hour or so after the procedure, so it’s important that have someone who can take you back, such as a friend or private driver.
Although it may be uncomfortable, walking around is encouraged as this will help with the healing process to reduce swelling. It also promotes blood flow, reducing the chance of blood clots.
Showering should be fine after 48 hours, but you will be advised not to soak in the bath until after the stitches have dissolved. Your surgeon will be able to provide more detailed advice in this respect.
You will need to keep the incisions clean and dry, although some oozing is to be expected.
You should be back to most of your everyday activities after a week but do avoid strenuous lifting and vigorous exercise for at least six weeks (that includes sex and swimming).
How Much Can I Save on Labiaplasty in Mexico Compared to the United States and Canada?
The cost of labiaplasty in Mexico is around $2,500 compared to $5,000 in the United States, a saving of at least 50%. [Please note: these prices are approximate estimates based on international data, calculated at the time of writing.]
