Juvederm

The ultimate guide to Juvederm

Last fact-checked: 3 October 2020

Juvederm®, a type of dermal filler, falls in a group of treatments referred to as cosmeceuticals – in that it combines both cosmetic and therapeutic effects

Sought by patients to restore volume and even out fine lines on the face, Juvederm is an ideal treatment to have while on vacation or business: It’s quick, there's no real downtime and you can save a decent amount of money when booking at one of our global providers.

What Is Juvederm and Is it for Me?

The active ingredient in Juvederm is hyaluronic acid (HA) – a carbohydrate that is found naturally in our own skin. It is used to restore volume and to diminish unwanted lines and wrinkles via injection by a doctor or certified practitioner.

Juvederm works best on lines on the face that are called ‘static’ lines – these are lines you can still see when your face is relaxed, as opposed to ‘active’ lines, which you can see when you pull a particular expression. Juvederm can also be added to the lips to increase their fullness (as part of lip enhancement treatment).

How Does Juvederm Treatment Work?

Juvederm's active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, retains more than 1,000 times its weight in water. As we age, the amount naturally contained in our skin, eyes and joints diminishes – especially once we pass 40. Babies have the most of it, which is why their skin is so dewy-looking and free from lines.

Juvederm is injected directly into the skin where it is needed and replaces hyaluronic acid. This kind of super moisturizer plumps and lifts the skin to smooth away lines.

What Does the Juvederm Treatment Entail? How Long Does it Take?

Juvederm injections only take a matter of minutes to do. The entire treatment can take between 10 minutes and an hour, depending on how many areas you are having treated.

Before the injection is given you will most likely be given a local anesthetic to numb the area to be treated, after which the Juvederm is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle.

What Is the Recovery Time for Juvederm?

You may experience some side effects, including redness, a little swelling and some tenderness immediately afterward, but they shouldn’t stop you from carrying on with your normal activities. The side-effects are only temporary and should clear up completely after a day or two – and you can always use makeup to cover the redness.

The effects last for around three months, but you can always have top-ups. Check out some before and after Juvederm photos here

How Much Will I Save by Going Abroad for Juvederm Treatment?

This really depends on where you go. However, as an example, in the United States, the cost of a Juvederm treatment is around $500, but if you have Juvederm in Mexico, it will probably cost in the region of $200 - $300.
