The ultimate guide to Hair Transplant in Puerto Vallarta
Last fact-checked: 23 February 2020
Find a solution to thinning or balding hair with a hair transplant in Puerto Vallarta.
You may be considering a hair transplant if you:
- Suffer from thinning hair (but are not completely bald)
- Have a receding hairline
- Have a bald patch at the crown
- Are a female who is experiencing thinning hair after menopause
- Have an auto-immune disorder or prescribed a certain medicine that contributes to hair loss
You may have tried different methods to stem hair loss, such as home remedies or natural cures. Only minoxidil is FDA approved for regrowth of hair; however, it is not a permanent method and may not work in all cases. Plus when you stop using it, you'll start losing hair again and it is expensive to boot.
A hair transplant is the only lasting solution to baldness. The procedure involves hair being transplanted from a donor region to your scalp. This then grows as the original did and will not become thin again.
Why Consider Hair Transplant in Puerto Vallarta?
As a cosmetic surgery procedure, hair transplants are not covered by medical insurance and can work out to be incredibly expensive, particularly if you need large areas covered. To get around the problem of affordability, savvy patients are heading abroad for surgery and saving thousands. Being relatively close to most major airports in Canada and the US, Puerto Vallarta makes an ideal medical tourism destination.
The popular Mexican resort city has state-of-the-art medical facilities and well-qualified, English-speaking doctors who provide surgery at inexpensive rates. It also has a lot to offer a holidaymaker in terms of blue water, beaches, warm climate, numerous dining and entertainment options and much more. You can indulge in water sports, take in breathtaking natural sites or simply have a relaxing holiday.
Why Can’t I Simply Book on My Own?
Hair transplant surgery is a specialist procedure that comes with a degree of risk if you throw caution to the wind when booking. It may seem easy to search online, but Google alone cannot verify any of the information you see on clinic sites.
This is why it makes sense to schedule your appointment through a trusted online medical booking platform like Medical Departures. We provide a safety shield for you by checking out the credentials and qualifications of the doctors in various clinics and hospitals that are listed on our website. Our listings include qualifications of surgeons, professional memberships, such as the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons, and other relevant information. We also visit hospitals and clinics ourselves to check-out the necessary amenities and equipment.
How Long Does a Hair Transplant Take and What Is the Recovery Like?
The time taken for hair transplant surgery varies and depends on how much area has to be covered and which technique is used. There are two main types of hair transplant:
- Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), which works by removing small strips of hair, cutting them smaller and then transplanting them. The hair is removed from the back of the head nearer the neckline and then transplanted.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), which works by removing individual follicles and transplanting them; this is more time consuming and used for minor work. Modern methods make FEU the preferred choice as it does not leave scars and gives a more natural result.
You may be in surgery for between four to eight hours, or you may space it out over a few days if a lot of work is required. Your head will be sore, though in FUE scabs may be barely visible. You will need time off for at least two to three days after surgery and will be mobile. The transplanted hair will fall off and then re-grow and results may take between six months to a year to be apparent.
How Much Can I Save on a Hair Transplant in Puerto Vallarta Compared to the US?
Hair transplant is expensive surgery and prices range from US$ 4,000 to US$ 15,000 in the U.S. and Canada depending on how much hair has to be transplanted. In Puerto Vallarta, you have to pay much less and prices start at an average of US$ 4,000.
[Please note: these prices are approximate estimates based on international data, calculated at the time of writing.]
