How Long Does a Facelift Take and What’s Involved?

This really depends on the extent of your facelift; surgery could be as little as two hours going up to six or even more.

After an initial consultation in which you and your surgeon will discuss your cosmetic treatment goals, the procedure will begin following the administration of general anaesthesia.

Your surgeon will make incisions in the hairline at the temple, as well as above and in front of the ear. The skin is gently lifted, and the underlying muscles and tissues tightened. Excess fat and skin may be removed and the remaining skin stitched in place. This process continues down under the earlobe and behind the ear. When finished a dressing will be applied to protect the areas where the incisions were made.

What Is the Recovery Time for a Facelift?

• For a full facelift, it may take several weeks before you feel well enough to go back to work, whereas it may be only a week for a mini-lift.
• Your face will feel tight, bruised and sore for the first few days after the procedure.
• You will be advised not to bend or lift for a few weeks, and you will probably find it much more comfortable to sleep propped up on pillows.
• You will gradually feel better over the coming weeks, but should avoid vigorous activity and strenuous exercise for around six weeks.
