Double Eyelid Surgery in Bangkok

The ultimate guide to Double Eyelid Surgery in Bangkok

Last fact-checked: 16 October 2019

Find quality surgeons for your double eyelid surgery in Bangkok with Medical Departures. This vibrant, exciting city is the pioneer of modern medical tourism, attracting many thousands of medical tourists each year thanks to its high-quality, affordable facilities.

Am I suitable for Double Eyelid Surgery?

Often referred to as Asian blepharoplasty, the procedure is used to create a double upper eyelid in place of the single lid that approximately 50% of Asians have. The surgery opens up the eyes, making them appear larger, and it can also help to improve the hooded appearance that monolids can sometimes project.

Blepharoplasty is also useful for reducing wrinkles under the eyes and puffiness.

Why Should I Undergo Double Eyelid Surgery in Bangkok?

Bangkok’s long-standing, solid reputation is still a magnet for medical tourists. The high standards of care and expertise of its medical staff, as well as an outstanding commitment to customer service,  are touches that encourage foreign patients to come back time and time again.

In comparison to healthcare facilities at home, some patients find Bangkok to be much more accommodating with additional touches that make a big difference – such as hospital rooms that are styled more like boutique hotels with kitchen facilities and room for your partner to stay.

Bangkok was the first city in Thailand to open its doors to medical tourists and it has never looked back. The Thai’s are proud of what they have achieved in this sector, and it is highly competitive, ensuring that standards don’t drop and patients continue to come.

Facilities are jaw-droppingly good, especially those aimed specifically at international patients, and there are a good number of JCI accredited facilities underlining Thailand’s commitment to medical expertise.

Prices are typically the initial attraction for foreign patients; coming in at least 50% less than what they’d pay at home then it’s little wonder they are attracted to the bright lights of Bangkok – enjoying a holiday before surgery is an added bonus.

While cost considerations are important, the credentials and reliability of doctors and clinics shouldn’t be overlooked. Medical Departures does the hard work of pre-checking our listings, so you don’t have to. Our background checks include legal and criminal records, doctor qualifications & professional memberships and collation of real patient reviews. Alongside high-definition clinic photos and virtual video tours, our patients can get a good overview of prospective facilities and doctors, and make an informed choice as to what’s suitable for them.

How Long Does Double Eyelid Surgery Take and What’s Involved?

The procedure doesn’t usually require an overnight stay in hospital. It is usually performed under local anesthetic or light sedation, and only takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

Surgery can be split into two techniques – the incision technique and the non-incision technique – and the method used is likely to be down to your surgeon’s preferences which may well be guided by the anatomy of the tissues surrounding the eye. Both have their pros and cons, but the incision technique is proving to be the more popular these days as it offers a permanent solution, which the non-incision method doesn’t.

How Long Is the Recovery Time Arter Double Eyelid Surgery?

Straight after the surgery, you may experience blurred vision and your eyes will feel sore and tender. It takes around 48 hours for the full swelling and bruising to appear, after which it will start to subside. Some people don’t look too bad a week after surgery, especially once stitches have been removed five to seven days after the procedure and makeup can be applied.

It will take two to four weeks before all the bruising has gone, but you will be advised not to undertake strenuous activities for at least six weeks. Full healing takes between six months and a year.
