Double Eyelid Surgery in Cancun

The ultimate guide to Double Eyelid Surgery in Cancun

Last fact-checked: 15 September 2020

Learn more about double eyelid surgery in Cancun and see just how much you can save in Mexico at our background-checked clinics.

What Is Double Eyelid Surgery?

The procedure is also known as Asian blepharoplasty due to its popularity among Asians for changing their single eyelid into a double eyelid.

Monolids are a typical feature of Asian eyes, tending to make the eyes look smaller, especially if there is fatty tissue present which can give a hooded appearance. The double eyelid procedure, which is normally performed for aesthetic reasons, creates a crease in the lid and opens up the eye area.

Why Consider Having Double Eyelid Surgery in Cancun?

Cancun is one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations, especially for those based in North America. This Mexican coastal resort has everything you need for a great time: crystal blue water, gently lapping white, sandy beaches; great shopping; a wide variety of entertainment; fabulous restaurants and top-class hotels. Where could be better to have some pre and post-surgery rest and recuperation?

Cancun is also considerably less expensive for plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures than the US, Canada, most of Europe and Australia/New Zealand. If you’re looking for a holiday where you can combine your surgery, then Cancun should be one of the destinations on your list.

Medical Tourism in Cancun

Mexico offers good quality and value for the medical tourist, and Cancun is one of the jewels in its crown. It’s an upscale resort town and the healthcare facilities are modern, luxurious and upmarket as well. Customer care standards are excellent, but so too is the medical expertise. Doctors who treat foreign patients are usually fluent in English and many have trained in the US, with the same qualifications as a surgeon back at home. You will find US board-certified surgeons in Cancun and clinics adhering to internationally-recognized health and safety procedures–all signs that promote reliability and trustworthiness.

At Medical Departures, we go a step further than other sites by undertaking our own background checks; we only list those facilities that have verifiable credentials, including qualifications and professional memberships. We also collect and authenticate patient reviews, which are published on our site, along with clinic photos and prices.

How Long Does Double Eyelid Surgery Take?

The procedure is relatively swift–only taking about an hour. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, so you usually won’t be required to stay in the hospital overnight.

What Is the Recovery Time After Double Eyelid Surgery?

You should expect bruising and swelling afterward, and your eyes will feel a little tender for up to 48 hours. After that, you should begin to feel much better as the swelling will start to subside. Other items to note:

  • It typically takes between two and four weeks before the swelling has disappeared completely.

  • You may have dissolvable stitches, but if not they are usually removed between five and seven days.

  • After around a week, you should be able to engage in your normal activities–and by that time you should be able to cover up any remaining bruising with makeup.

  • Vigorous activities should be avoided for six weeks and it could take six months to a year for all the eye tissue to be fully healed.
