Dermal fillers are primarily used to smooth out facial lines and wrinkles, but they can be used to improve the look of scarring, and in some instances to plump out the lips.

Why Have Dermal Fillers in Thailand?

Dermal fillers can be used as a stand-alone treatment against the ravages of time, but can also be used in addition to facial surgery. It’s important to realize that they don’t produce results as dramatic as surgery, and that you should have realistic expectations about the effects.

As a super-quick treatment, they can certainly give you a lift – and if you’re on holiday, the time spent at the clinic won’t disrupt your other plans too much; plus, the recovery time is minimal. Unless you’re already going to Thailand, you probably won’t save enough to make it worthwhile to go on a specific trip just for filler treatments. However, if you’re planning a trip here already, having dermal fillers in Thailand will save you money compared to having it back home. 

Thailand is world-renowned for the high-quality of its cosmetic surgery, and associated treatments such as dermal fillers. Reputable clinics are modern, hygienic, often ISO compliant and staffed with highly-trained and qualified practitioners. In fact, many patients actually find the standards far surpass what they're used to elsewhere.

What Are the Different Types of Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers may be permanent or non-permanent. New and rapid advances in technology mean new products are coming to market all the time, so this list is by no means extensive. However, we can categorize them as:

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

These contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA occurs in the body naturally, so these fillers tend to be highly compatible but aren’t permanent, and the results will fade over time – between 6 months and a year. The results can be topped up when you feel it is needed. Some popular dermal fillers containing HA are Perlane, Restylane and Juvederm.

Synthetic Dermal Fillers

These tend to be longer-lasting than the HA type of filler, but because the ingredients in them are synthetic they may cause allergic reactions. Some (not all) synthetic dermal fillers are permanent and care must be taken to use an experienced practitioner to administer the filler, as disfigurement can occur if it is used improperly. Radiesse, Bellafill and Sculptra are synthetic dermal fillers.

Collagen Dermal Fillers

Some of these products include animal collagen, from cows (Zyplast, Zyderm) and pigs (Evolence) and require a quick allergy test beforehand. Artefill (Artecol in Europe) is a hybrid product, containing tiny plastic spheres and cow collagen. The results of these are short-lived, lasting for around a month.

There are newer products available now which contain collagen from humans, such as Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm, with some developed from your own skin – Autologen and Isolagen. The results are considered by many to be more natural-looking, but the effects aren’t as long-lasting as some other dermal filler treatments.

What Does the Procedure for Dermal Fillers Entail?

Local anesthesia will usually be administered before the injections commence. The precisely measured amount of filler is drawn into a syringe and injected beneath the skin at selected points for each area of treatment.

After the injections are finished, you can return to your everyday activities immediately – but you must stay out of the sun for a few days. You should only have some mild side-effects, such as localized reddening of the skin and mild swelling, but these will subside after a day or two.

How Much Can I Save on Dermal Fillers in Thailand Compared to Australia and New Zealand?

Prices vary depending on what brand of filler is used, and also what treatment areas – some, such as around the eye areas, require two syringes.

The average price per syringe in Thailand is AUD $500 (US $400, CAD $500, £250 GBP, €350), which can be compared to $800 (US $600, CAD $750, £400 GBP, €550) in Australia (around 50%).
