Dermal Fillers: In Brief
Most of us are always looking for ways to make ourselves look younger, whether that be with serums or creams, munching on so-called "superfoods", cutting out the booze or even going on holiday to get a bit of sun (and color) on our faces. However, it's only a matter of time before these measures stop working, and the signs of our advancing years become apparent.
A lot of people look then look for more drastic alternatives - not as drastic as cosmetic surgery, but something that will make a noticeable difference; this is when dermal fillers may be the ideal solution.
Fillers are generally temporary, quick to administer, have very little downtime and are relatively inexpensive – especially abroad where you will more than likely save quite a bit. They are a perfect pick-me-up if you’re on holiday and want to return home looking even more fresh-faced and relaxed – and the beauty of it is that most people will think you look so good because of your holiday.
Who Are Dermal Fillers Suitable For?
Dermal fillers are suitable for everyone, but some of the synthetic ones may not be suitable for everyone as they may cause allergic reactions. There are a number of different brands of dermal filler available now, with new ones appearing all the time, and they do not all target the same type of problem. Make sure you consult a professional beforehand who will be able to confirm your suitability.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers help to replace fat and collagen loss in our skin, which happens to us all as we age. This loss in volume causes our skin to sag, with lines and wrinkles subsequently forming. Dermal fillers can help to:
- Improve lines and wrinkles
- Improve scars
- Enhance contours
- Plump thin lips
What Are the Different Types of Dermal Fillers?
Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers:
The main ingredient in these (hyaluronic acid) is found naturally in our own skin. It can hold more than 1,000 times its own weight in water and is very good for hydrating the skin, giving it a youthful glow. HA fillers produce subtle, temporary results that gradually fade after around six months.
Well-known brands include Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane.
Synthetic Dermal Fillers:
The ingredients in these are not found naturally in the skin, but they do offer longer-lasting results. Some of them are permanent and you should consider all the pros and cons of using them.
Brands include Sculptra, Bellafill and Radiesse.
What Can I Expect to Happen During My Dermal Filler Treatment?
A local anesthetic will be given in the area(s) where the treatment is to be administered. The filler is drawn into a syringe and injected directly beneath the skin. It takes just moments to do each injection.
Afterward, apart from a little redness and possibly some localized tenderness and swelling, you should be able to carry on immediately with your planned activities. Apart from keeping out of the sun for a couple of days, you’ll be good to go. The results should start to become apparent after a few days.
How Much Can I Expect to Save on Dermal Fillers Abroad?
In most cases, you should be able to save up to 50% on the prices you’d pay at home. For example, dermal fillers in Mexico cost $400 per syringe, compared to $700 in the United States.
These prices are approximate. To see some of the latest prices, as well as clinic photos and patient reviews, explore these popular destinations where our clients go for dermal fillers, as well as a range of other beauty treatments:
