What Is the Procedure for Breast Reduction in Seoul?

A breast reduction is carried out under a general anaesthetic. Depending on how much breast tissue needs to be removed, the procedure will take between three and five hours.

Your surgeon will discuss with you beforehand where the incision marks will be as this will be where the excess skin and tissue will be removed. The surgery may involve moving the nipple and areola (the coloured part around the nipple) to a different position on the breast once the excess tissue has been removed. Additionally, you may have liposuction to further add shape and definition to the breast.

Incisions will be stitched closed and likely dressed in a compression garment to ease swelling once the procedure is complete. Sometimes surgical drains are inserted to remove fluid away from the wound site.

What Is the Recovery Time for a Breast Reduction?

Following surgery, you should note that:

• You will be encouraged to get up and about as soon as you can after the procedure as this helps to reduce swelling and encourages quicker healing.
• You will feel quite bruised and swollen, and it may be more comfortable to sleep in an elevated position with several pillows for some days afterwards.
• You should take it easy for a few weeks, especially with regard to bending and stretching.
• The stiffness will gradually subside but it may be a couple of weeks before you can engage in your normal routine, and six weeks or more before you can partake in vigorous exercise again.
