The ultimate guide to Breast Reduction in Philippines
Important note as of 27 October 2022:
At this time, Medical Departures is no longer facilitating medical bookings in the Philippines.
To find and schedule a free appointment with a board-registered surgeon elsewhere in Asia, please browse our network of trusted, verified breast reduction providers in Thailand or South Korea—as well as dozens of other destinations to choose from in our main global guide.
Alternatively, see some of our popular medical destination guides below—containing travel tips, price comparisons, before & after photos, reviews, and recommended clinics for other types of plastic surgery, dermatology, hair transplantation, orthopedics, fertility and anti-aging treatments:
We thank you for your continued support and wish you all the best in good health and safe travels.
For your reference:
With more and more people seeking to combine their medical treatments with a holiday abroad, the Philippines provides the ideal location to fulfill both needs. Breast reduction procedures here cost around 70% less than in Australia and New Zealand.
The clinics are modern and the doctors highly trained and professionally qualified. We have included a list of suitable clinics to help you decide where to book your breast reduction procedure. Site visits are conducted to inspect facilities and background checks are run to verify qualifications and affiliations with international professional organizations such as the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. We have also included reviews from former patients for you to gauge their satisfaction.
Filipinos possess an inherent hospitality and most are English-speaking, so there will be no issues with communication, both with the locals and your medical team. You'll find plenty to keep you occupied, with the opportunity to relax on the white, sandy beaches or take refuge from the heat in the exotic rain forests.
Alternatively, you may prefer to explore some of major towns and cities. Serendra is a Piazza in the center of Metro Manila. Here you will find lifestyle and luxury shops, coffee and tea shops, as well as furniture and clothing stores. The piazza features modern architecture and an amazing display of public art.
Do note that after your procedure, you will be needing to take things easy, following the advice of your surgeon as to what you can and can't do.
Am I Suitable for a Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgery may be the solution for you if:
- you feel that your breasts are disproportionately large
- your breasts are a source of physical discomfort
- you are self-conscious about your breast size
- you have one breast larger than the other
- your nipples and areolas point downwards
What Does a Breast Reduction Procedure Involve?
Firstly, it should be noted that before your surgery, the following may be required:
- undergo a mammogram (if you’re over 40), a chest x-ray or an ECG.
- make lifestyle changes and achieve weight goals to minimize complications
- stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery to promote healing
You will be given a general anaesthetic before surgery commences, which means you cannot have anything to eat or drink in the six hours leading up to the operation, and you will usually have to stay in hospital for a night or two afterward.
The surgeon will mark your breasts with a pen to highlight where he is going to make the incisions. Normally, the surgeon will relocate the nipple first, usually whilst it is still attached to the blood supply. However, in cases where the breasts are extremely large, the nipple may have to be removed completely and reattached as a skin graft. In instances like this, the reattached nipple will develop it’s own blood supply naturally.
The surgeon will then remove the excess breast tissue and skin from the breast and reshape the remaining tissue to create more elevated breasts.
After surgery, the following will be required:
- have someone pick you up from the clinic (this can be arranged privately)
- ensure that you have someone to stay with you on the first night after your operation
- eat healthily to encourage healing
- take it easy for at least a week
- wear loose-fitting clothes that you don’t need to lift your arms over your head to get into
How Long Does a Breast Reduction Procedure Take?
This will depend on how much breast tissue is being removed, and also how many surgeons are involved in the process. It’s possible that there could be two surgeons working on each breast, which would reduce the procedure time considerably.
In general, the whole breast reduction process may take between two to four hours.
What Is the Recovery Time?
You will be stiff, sore and tender immediately after surgery. You will be bandaged and could well have surgical drains inserted. The bandages and drains will usually be removed within the first week after your surgery.
Approximately ten days after surgery, you will have your stitches removed. You will also find that any swelling and bruising will have subsiding.
Movement should continue to improve but it could take several weeks to return to normal. During this time, heavy lifting or strenuous activities should be avoided. In most cases, it can take up to six months to make a full recovery
