Breast Reduction in Mexico

The ultimate guide to Breast Reduction in Mexico

Last fact-checked: 14 January 2021

Breast reduction in Mexico offers women (and men) a cost-effective solution to what can be either an aesthetic or medical problem, with a larger chest size often causing pain or embarrassment.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 90,000 breast reduction procedures are carried out in the US per year—reflecting an awful lot of people who are unhappy with their large breasts. The procedure isn't normally covered by medical insurance, and can set you back around $6,000 in the US. However, a trip across the border to one of our verified clinics or hospitals in Mexico can save you thousands.

Breast reduction is often carried out in conjunction with a breast lift so that your smaller breasts are lifted into a higher, more youthful position.

Why Have a Breast Reduction in Mexico?

Mexico’s variety of exciting destinations offer something for everyone—whether you fancy some time on the beach, exploring the mountains or simply taking it easy in one of the country’s many old-Colonial towns and cities. Visitors from the US and Canada will find it particularly accessible without the hassle of a long-haul flight, while those living in southern states can even drive across the border to destinations like Tijuana for a breast reduction

The most important factor to consider when planning a trip abroad for medical care is the quality of the facilities. Mexico may well be considered as an emerging economy but it is one of the world’s most popular destinations for medical tourism.

In part, this is because it has long been attracting visitors from over the border in search of a bargain—with medical, dental and pharmaceutical services being no exception. However, with international travel now affordable and commonplace for the masses, visitors from much further afield are starting to come.

Booking with Medical Departures

While the influx of dental and medical tourists to Mexico is generally good news, we cannot stress how important it is to do some of your own research into your breast reduction procedure, as well as prospective surgeons and clinics. Bogus operators exist everywhere in the world, not just Mexico, and there are steps you should take to ensure you don’t fall victim to one of them.

To make this process easier for you, we have already performed background checks on all of the clinics and doctors you see listed on our site. We verify qualifications, professional memberships and experience, as well as publish clinic photos, virtual tours and real patient reviews.

No medical procedure can be guaranteed 100% anywhere in the world, but you can minimize the risk of anything untoward happening by making sure you book your surgery at a reputable facility.

How Long Does a Breast Reduction Take and When Can I Go Back to Work?

The actual breast reduction surgery typically takes between 1.5 and 3 hours to complete, although this will depend on how much tissue needs to be removed. Sometimes the process is quicker if there are two surgeons working – one on each breast. Do also consider that you will need an initial consultation and spend some time recovering afterward before you are able to return to your hotel.

Your stitches will be removed after about 10 days but it usually takes at least two to three weeks before the swelling has subsided substantially. You will be quite sore but most people return to work after the stitches are taken out (about 10 days). Your time off will also depend on the nature of your work.

You will have to be mindful not to do anything too strenuous for at least six weeks, especially heavy lifting. It could take up to six months before you are fully healed inside and out.

How Much Can I Save on a Breast Reduction in Mexico Compared to the United States?

Costs vary considerably. However, the average price of a breast reduction in Mexico is around $2,500 compared to $6,000 in the United States.
