Breast Lift in Turkey

The ultimate guide to Breast Lift in Turkey

Last fact-checked: 25 November 2021

If you have lost perkiness due to the effects of age, gravity or childbirth, you may be considering joining the millions of people every year who benefit from a surgical breast lift.

And with safe, more affordable care available in Turkey, that common stumbling block concerning price becomes less of a problem—with patients frequently saving between 50% and 70% in cities like Istanbul or Antalya when booking with Medical Departures.

Find out more about what this procedure entails, as well as dozens of fully verified, full background-checked breast lift clinics in Turkey.

What Is a Breast Lift?

Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift is a widely popular type of plastic surgery that changes the shape and trajectory of the breasts.

As the name suggests, the procedure lifts up the position of the breasts and reduces sagging by removing excess skin.

To keep things in proportion and looking natural, a breast lift can also raise the position of the nipples and areolas, which can also be reduced in size.

A breast lift on its own does not add size; however, mastopexy can also be combined with breast augmentation techniques, such as implants or reduction surgery, to add or decrease volume.

Who Is a Breast Lift for?

The procedure is typically sought by women who have lost elasticity and firmness as a result of:

  • The natural ageing process (with help from gravity over time)

  • Pregnancy breastfeeding

  • Significant weight fluctuations

  • Genetics

Candidates for a breast lift in Turkey should:

  • Genuinely have sagging, stretched or misshapen breasts—and thus can benefit from a lift to help improve shape.

  • Be in overall good health.

  • Have realistic expectations as to the achievable aesthetic results of this surgery

  • Understand what the procedure entails, as well as the associated risks.

Breast lift surgery is not for everyone; you may want to avoid or delay surgery if you are:

  • Recovering from any prior surgery

  • Planning to become pregnant or start breastfeeding again

  • Overweight or have naturally large breasts; heavier breasts are likely to start sagging soon after surgery, thus certain patients may want to consider a combined mastopexy and breast reduction.

What Is the Procedure for a Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery is a relatively straightforward procedure that can be carried out either at a hospital or an outpatient surgical facility. It can be done:

  • Under local anaesthetic with IV sedation, meaning patients are almost but not quite asleep.

  • General anaesthesia, where patients are fully asleep for the duration of the procedure.

Different mastopexy techniques can be used to reshape breast tissue and remove excess skin; the one right for you will depend on the location of the incisions (bearing in mind the position of the resulting scars), as well as the extent of the lift and the patient's aesthetic goals.

Incisions for a breast lift can be made:

  • Around each areola

  • From each areola down to where the breast creases

  • Along each breast crease

The method can also differ in that:

  • The breast tissue can be reshaped, with further incisions and resulting stitches placed inside the breasts.

  • The size of the areolae may be reduced.

  • The nipples may be repositioned in cases where a substantial amount of excess breast skin is removed.

Once the lift has been completed, the flaps of breast skin are brought together and closed using stitches, surgical tape and/or skin adhesives.

The surgery can take between one hour and three hours, depending on the extent of the lift.

When carried out in combination with breast implants or reduction, the surgery can take around four hours.

What Is the Recovery Time from a Breast Lift?

Immediately after surgery, you:

  • Will be stiff and sore, with bruising gradually emerging.

  • May have drainage tubes inserted to remove any excess fluid.

  • Need to wear a surgical bra for support.

  • Need to sleep on your back or side.

  • Should take any pain medication, as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Should follow your doctor’s advice as to when you will be able to resume everyday activities, such as showering or resuming light walking.

Estimated post-surgery timeline:

  • Fly back home: 3–5 days (minimum)

  • Back to work: 1 week

  • Return to exercise and vigorous activity: 1–2 months

  • Full recovery: 3–4 months

Note: A follow-up visit with a specialist or GP back home is advised one or two months after surgery; you should also be able to talk to your surgeon back in Turkey over Skype, Zoom or the phone, especially if you have any questions or special concerns.

Breast Lift Surgery Risks

While a straightforward procedure that benefits thousands of patients benefit every year, all types of plastic surgery do carry a degree of risk, no matter where in the world you have it.

Side effects and risks associated with breast lifts include but are not limited to:

  • bruising and swelling

  • numbness of the nipple area

  • uneven breasts, scarring from incisions

Potential complications that should be understood (so that patients know when to contact a GP) include:

  • seroma (build-up of fluid around the breasts)

  • hematoma (blood clots, particularly in cases where implants are used

  • impairment of blood supply to the nipple

  • infection

Our partner facilities in cities like Istanbul and Antalya offer exceptionally high standards—some say even the quality is actually better than at home. The country is a world-renowned travel destination with plenty to offer, no matter what your particular tastes are—with major cities and beach resorts boasting more than their fair share of upscale-yet-affordable hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, museums, galleries and much more to help you relax and recuperate in style.
