How Long Does a Breast Lift Take and What Is the Recovery Like?

Prior to having your breast lift performed, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals. During this consultation, your physician will perform a physical exam. They may also take before photos, measure your breasts, and make marks to determine how to proceed with your breast lift.

Regarding your procedure, it should be noted that:

• Your breast lift will be performed under general anesthesia to limit your discomfort.
• The surgeon will begin by making an incision in the breasts to remove excess tissue and skin.
• If the procedure is to be combined with a breast enlargement, implants will be inserted.
• Sutures will usually be used to close the incisions at the end of the procedure.
• You should expect to have bandages over your breast when you awaken.
• Drain tubes are also typically inserted to assist with reducing swelling; these can be removed within 48 hours following your procedure.

Following your breast lift:

• It is common for patients to experience discomfort following a breast lift. Pain medication may be prescribed to help minimize pain.
• You will likely be advised to limit your activities for a few weeks following your procedure.
• Your doctor may also ask you to wear a support bra. Sutures may be removed within a couple of weeks.
• The final results of your breast lift may not be visible until a few weeks following the procedure, as you will need to allow time for swelling to ease.
• You should expect continued improvement over the weeks and months following your breast lift.
