Breast Lift in San Jose

The ultimate guide to Breast Lift in San Jose

Last fact-checked: 12 October 2020

If you want to take action against sagging breasts, it's possible to get a surgical lift in San Jose, Costa Rica while enjoying the tropical surroundings of this must-visit Latin American country.

Find out how with Medical Departures.

What Is a Breast Lift - And How Can it Help Me?

Over time, a woman's breasts may begin to sag due to gravity and aging. Other factors that can encourage gravity to take its toll (earlier than it should), are weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

This procedure, which is also sometimes called mastopexy, helps to firm and raise the breasts through the removal of extra breast tissue.

A breast lift can also help to correct other problems, such as an overly large areola. As well as being a way to enhance one's appearance, patients also report improved self-confidence and esteem.

In considering whether this procedure is a good choice, it is important to understand that while a breast lift can be effective in lifting and reshaping your breasts, it will not increase the size. If you desire a larger cup size, you may wish to consider having a breast enlargement (with implants) performed in combination with your breast lift procedure.

Most women are still able to breastfeed following a breast lift but do consult your surgeon if you are planning to become pregnant in the future.

Finding a Reputable Surgeon in Costa Rica

In considering traveling to Costa Rica for a breast lift, it is still important for patients to conduct research to ensure they find a reputable facility.

Medical Departures makes this process transparent and straightforward as we provide free-to-access lists of medical facilities and surgeons. Only when a physician and/or facility has passed our exhaustive background check are they included on our list. That process includes verifying qualifications and professional memberships, such as the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

We also feel it is important to perform criminal and civil checks to ensure your complete peace of mind and safety. Our vetting process also includes visiting facilities in person and interviewing patients who have actually used that facility.

How Long Does a Breast Lift Take and What Is the Recovery Like?

Prior to having your breast lift performed, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals. During this consultation, your physician will perform a physical exam. They may also take before photos, measure your breasts, and make marks to determine how to proceed with your breast lift.

Regarding your procedure, it should be noted that:

  • Your breast lift will be performed under general anesthesia to limit your discomfort.
  • The surgeon will begin by making an incision in the breasts to remove excess tissue and skin.
  • If the procedure is to be combined with a breast enlargement, implants will be inserted.
  • Sutures will usually be used to close the incisions at the end of the procedure.
  • You should expect to have bandages over your breast when you awaken.
  • Drain tubes are also typically inserted to assist with reducing swelling; these can be removed within 48 hours following your procedure.

Following your breast lift:

  • It is common for patients to experience discomfort following a breast lift. Pain medication may be prescribed to help minimize pain.
  • You will likely be advised to limit your activities for a few weeks following your procedure.
  • Your doctor may also ask you to wear a support bra. Sutures may be removed within a couple of weeks.
  • The final results of your breast lift may not be visible until a few weeks following the procedure, as you will need to allow time for swelling to ease.
  • You should expect continued improvement over the weeks and months following your breast lift.
