Breast Lift in Costa Rica

The ultimate guide to Breast Lift in Costa Rica

Last fact-checked: 12 August 2020

A breast lift in Costa Rica can be a great way to restore sagging, drooping breasts while also enjoying a tropical getaway. Discover how you can around 70% in the stunning Latin American country with Medical Departures.

Why Would I Consider a Breast Lift?

Also known as a mastopexy, this common procedure is intended to firm and raise the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the breast tissue. An enlarged areola can also be corrected with this procedure. Women who undergo this procedure are able to benefit from a more youthful appearance and improved self-confidence.

Drooping, sagging breasts are often the result of aging and gravity, but can also be caused by fluctuations in weight as well as breastfeeding and pregnancy. If you are considering having a breast lift performed, you should understand that this procedure will lift and reshape your breasts, but will not increase the size of your breasts. Breast enlargement is sometimes performed in conjunction with a breast lift in order to increase cup size.

Women are sometimes concerned that this procedure will interfere with their ability to breastfeed in the future; however, this should not cause a problem when performed in a specific way—although this is something to be discussed further with your surgeon in Costa Rica.

Why Have a Breast Lift in Costa Rica?

Medical tourists from all over the world, particularly the United States, are now choosing to have a variety of procedures, including breast lifts, performed in Costa Rica. With miles of pristine beaches, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and popular attractions as the Whale's Tale, Costa Rica offers the opportunity to enjoy an enjoyable tropical getaway either before or while recovering from your procedure.

Costa Rica also happens to have one of the best healthcare systems in Latin America. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities and highly experienced physicians, Costa Rica also offers substantially lower costs than in the United States.

How Long Does a Breast Lift Take and What Should Be Expected from Recovery?

As part of your procedure, you will first have a consultation with your surgeon giving you the opportunity to discuss your goals. This is followed by a planning stage in which your surgeon marks the appropriate place on your breast to show your new nipple position.

A breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. After making incisions, your surgeon will remove excess skin and reposition breast tissue. In cases in which the patient desires a larger cup size, implants will be inserted into the breasts.

You can read more about breast enlargements (augmentation) in Costa Rica here, with information about the types of implants available and where the incisions are generally made.

At the end of the procedure, your surgeon will use sutures to close your incisions. Bandages will then be placed over your breasts. You should expect drain tubes to be inserted into your breasts and remain in place for up to 48 hours.

It is normal to experience some discomfort in the days following your procedure. You may be prescribed pain medication to help with any pain you experience. Patients are typically advised to wear a support bra for several days following a breast lift to provide the necessary support. Sutures are usually removed within two to three weeks after a breast lift. Patients should recognize that it will take some time to see the final results of a breast lift, as the breasts will continue to improve for some time following the procedure.

During the first few weeks following your procedure, you should limit your activity. Patients are often able to return to work within around one week following a breast lift; however, it may be necessary to continue wearing a surgical bra.

How Much Can I Save in Costa Rica Compared to the U.S. and Canada?

Patients are typically able to save around 70% on cosmetic surgery in Costa Rica, and breast lift surgery is no exception.

The average cost of a breast lift in Costa Rica is $3,300 (GBP £2,378, AUD $4,631, EUR £4,631) compared to $11,000 in the United States (GBP £7,585, AUD $15,563, EUR €9,857.) [Please note: these prices are approximate estimates based on international data, calculated at the time of writing.]
