Breast Augmentation in Thailand

The ultimate guide to Breast Augmentation in Thailand

Last fact-checked: 14 December 2022

Considering breast augmentation in Thailand to enhance the size and shape of your breasts?

More and more patients are traveling abroad in search of affordable care, and with a trip to the Land of Smiles, it’s possible to save between 50% and 70% on a range of different breast enhancement solutions while enjoying a memorable holiday before surgery.

In this guide, we give you the low-down on why this part of the world makes such a rewarding destination for safe and effective care, as well as breast implant prices in Thailand, recommended clinics and booking information–which you can do right here with Medical Departures.

Cost of Breast Augmentation in Thailand vs Australia/the UK

Take a look at the table below to see the price of breast implants in Thailand compared to approximate costs in Australia and the UK:

Method

Average Price in Australia

Average Price in the UK

Average Price in Thailand

Silicone Breast Implants

AUD 11,00 - 15,000 (GBP 6,000 - 8,000)

GBP 7,000 - 10,000 (AUD 12,500 - 18,000)

AUD 4,000 - 7,000 (GBP 2,300 - 4,000)

What Factors Will Affect the Price?

A key factor that will determine how much you pay for your breast enhancement surgery in Thailand is the method used. Discussed in more detail further down this page, the two most popular breast augmentation techniques are:

  1. Breast implants

  2. Autologous fat transfer (fat grafting)

Other factors affecting the price of surgery are:

  • The material from which the implants are made (i.e. silicone or saline)

  • The size of the implants (patients normally only go up one or two cup sizes)

  • The shape of the implants (eg. round, teardrop or “gummy bear implants”)

  • For grafting, the volume of fat transferred

  • The duration of the surgery

  • Whether certain post-breast augmentation-op essentials are provided by the clinic/hospital (as part of the total price you pay), such as special support garments, medication, scar creams, etc.

Other Factors to Consider as a Medical Tourist in Thailand

As with any other trip abroad, prospective patients should take into consideration the following things that will affect their overall budget… and determine the answer to the question: is it worthwhile financially?

  • Flight tickets, with prices affected by the name of the airline, seat category, time of year and checked-in baggage.

  • The location of the clinic: for example, staying in the capital of Bangkok tends to be more pricey than a destination like Chiang Mai or Pattaya.

  • The reputation of the clinic and surgeon’s profile/experience

  • Choice of accommodation

  • The duration of your stay: you will be expected to stay in the country for at least a week following surgery before being given the green light to fly home.

To Holiday or Not to Holiday?

Another thing that will certainly inflate your overall budget is whether or not you’re planning to enjoy a proper holiday before surgery.

Many medical tourists take advantage of the fact that they’re visiting such an amazing destination, often heading to the islands in the south or mountains of the north before their surgery–which will certainly add to overall costs.

It should be stressed here that following surgery, any strenuous activity or domestic travel will need to be avoided; instead, plan to stay in and around the comfort of a hotel near your clinic, giving your body time to heal before enduring the flight home.

Are There Hidden Costs?

There are no hidden costs or deceptive booking fees when booking with Medical Departures. Our team of representatives endeavor to be as accurate as possible when providing prospective patients with price quotes via clinics and hospitals in Thailand.

As well as taking into consideration your health and cosmetic goals, surgeons will provide estimates which are subject to potential fluctuations when you meet them in person in Thailand. For example, you may want to increase or decrease the number of cup sizes previously planned.

In other cases, patients may be advised that a combined breast lift (with implants) is the optimal way to achieve a particular look, thus increasing the total price.

Why Choose Thailand for Breast Implants?

Thailand has long been a haven for leisure and adventure travel, with international arrivals steadily rising to a peak of 40 million in 2019 before the pandemic.

Now, the country is on course to return to being the Mecca it once was for sun, sea and silicone implants (among countless other cosmetic enhancements), after easing all restrictions and rolling out various medical travel incentives.

Of course, the main reason to visit Thailand for any medical procedure or health treatment is the potential savings to be made–which can easily run into four or five figures compared to back home.

But aside from the low prices, here’s why patients from across the globe choose Thailand for breast implant surgery:

  • It’s an extraordinary travel destination: its rich culture, stunning beaches and courteous people draw people back time and time again.

  • Thailand is home to some of the largest and most internationally renowned hospitals and clinics in the region. Aside from savvy medical tourists looking to save on plastic surgery, patients from across Asia flock to places like Bangkok and Phuket–not in search of savings but rather because the standards and expertise of the doctors are higher than in their respective countries. For patients with serious conditions, this can often be life-saving.

  • The country’s best hospitals are staffed by doctors who are trained at top facilities overseas, including the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia; many have received international accreditation from the Joint Commission International, such as Medical Departures’ partners Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital.

  • Thailand is renowned for its service culture, and medical tourists can expect efficient, five-star service in hospitals and clinics which feel, run and look like 5* hotels. If you are accustomed to public health services, Thailand’s private healthcare facilities will expose you to an entirely new world of treatment and service.

  • Our partner facilities are run by English-speaking medical personnel, who, as well as specialist surgeons, including well-qualified pharmacists, anesthesiologists, therapists, nurses and other support staff who are experts in their fields.

  • Formalities such as payments are handled with ease, with hospital staff also on standby to help you get around–particularly convenient for when you’re discharged.

  • At the top medical centers, aftercare is spent in a luxury room with all mod cons, and additional services designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Why Are Breast Implants Cheaper in Thailand?

Thailand is still considered to be a developing nation, and consequently, the cost of living is substantially lower than Australia, the USA, the UK and other Western European nations.

Wages, rents, insurances and all those other things which bump up your medical bills at home are a fraction of the cost here–and this results in the incredible savings Westerners experience in Thailand.

Another big reason as to why even top surgeons in Thailand earn much less than their Western counterparts is the cost of their education and training. While the number of years they spend at medical school is comparable, they won’t be paying anywhere near the USD $200,000 average that doctors in the US are faced with (based on statistics in 2021 from the Association of American Colleges.

Finding the Best Clinic and Surgeon for Breast Implants in Thailand

As for the country’s medical tourism, it has somewhat piggy-backed the country’s traditional tourism sector, with excellent facilities and a high-regarded healthcare infrastructure already in place. Inevitably, most of the top facilities are located in the capital, Bangkok, as well as resort towns like Phuket and Pattaya where services and amenities are bountiful.

About Breast Augmentation Procedures

Breast augmentation surgery (also known as breast enlargement, implants, augmentation mammoplasty, or informally, a “boob job”) is one of the most sought-after and popular procedures around the world.

Why Get it?

A bigger, enhanced bust can help restore patients’ own self-image and confidence after a mastectomy, or simply boost confidence if you’ve long been conscious about having a flat chest

It is often carried out in combination with a breast lift to give you a perkier, more youthful figure.

In Brief: What Does Treatment Entail?

First, you’ll have an initial consultation at your chosen clinic in Thailand. Although you may have already virtually met your surgeon online, this formal meeting will allow for more thorough examinations and planning to take place, as well as for you both to discuss what the procedure will entail.

The surgery may take place on the day of this first consultation, or a day or two after, depending on your preferences and other factors.

Breast Implant Surgery

For standard breast implants, the actual procedure is normally carried out under general anesthesia and involves incisions being made into which the implants are inserted.

Your surgeon will discuss with you beforehand where these will be, along with the type of implant, eg. silicone, saline or otherwise. Incisions can be:

  • Periareolar (the dark area surrounding the nipple)

  • Inframammary (underneath the breast in the crease which joins the chest wall)

  • Transaxillary (under the armpit)

The procedure usually takes between one and two hours to carry out, although you may well spend the best part of a day at the hospital before you can head back to your hotel.

Breast Enhancement via Fat Transfer

In the majority of cases, silicone implants are used to enhance the size of the breasts by one or two cup sizes, although fat transfer is another option.

Similar to a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) , this technique harvests fat cells via liposuction from another area of the body which is then purified and then injected into the breasts to add volume.

While the increase in size is limited compared to breast implants, one advantage of this method is that the area from which the fat is harvested–such as the arms or tummy–also experiences the positive effects of liposuction, ie., it is slimmed down and toned.

What About Recovery?

Recovery time for breast augmentation is quite quick compared to other plastic surgery procedures; most people are able to fly home after 5-7 days and be back at work soon after that (depending on the nature of work).

It will take around six weeks before you can engage in any sports or strenuous activities and a full recovery will take several months.

Please note: For more detailed information about undergoing this surgery abroad, check out Medical Departures’ global guides to breast augmentation and breast implants.
