The ultimate guide to Botox in Bangkok
Last fact-checked: 10 October 2020
Iron out wrinkles or stop them in their tracks with Botox in Bangkok. While many people use Botox to minimize existing wrinkles, this neurotoxic protein can also be used to prevent wrinkles from forming. And the right circumstances, a means of prevention is better than the cure.
Botox® is the world’s favorite non-surgical procedure for removing or reducing facial wrinkles, lines and crow’s feet. Botox was the first brand to bring injectable botulinum toxins to the market, although multiple brands are now available under the same Botox name.
Why Use Botox?
What makes Botox so popular is the fact that it lends great results in such a short space of time. As well as being quick, it's also relatively painless to administer, has few after-effects, and, above all, is less invasive and more affordable than cosmetic surgery.
It's also worth noting that the effects can be cumulative; many people report longer-lasting results after several treatments spaced between three and five months apart.
Why Should I Consider Having Botox in Bangkok?
As Botox is not a major procedure, heading to Bangkok just to receive this treatment is not going to be worth your while. Having said that, if you are planning a holiday or business trip to the Thai capital anytime soon, then the prospect of saving a few hundred dollars (if you were already thinking about Botox injections back home) could be too difficult to resist.
Being such a popular procedure, and due to the fact that Thailand is known as a Mecca for cosmetic treatments, you’ll find plenty of easily-accessible clinics throughout the city.
If you wish to be treated only with Botox, instead of the other readily available botulinum brands, it's worth doing a little research of your own. Look for a reliable clinic that can demonstrate they adhere to high standards and employ credible doctors.
Medical Departures makes this easy for you. We vet and verify all our listed clinics, conducting personal visits and background checks to confirm all qualifications and professional memberships. We post verified patient reviews, clinic photos and "before and after" images so that you can arrive at an informed decision.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox serum is injected into facial muscles to effectively paralyze them, blocking nerve signals from reaching the surrounding area. As the muscle is unable to contract, wrinkle lines and furrows relax, which softens their appearance. The result is a much younger-looking you (after the swelling subsides a few days later).
On What Areas Can Botox Be Used?
Botulinum is most commonly applied to smooth part of the forehead (the glabella) that lies between the eyebrows, as well as the lines around the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox can be applied to other facial areas, including the nasolabial lines and corners of the mouth, as well as for lifting eyebrows, gummy smile reduction and on neckbands.
Botulinum is also used to correct other medical conditions besides facial wrinkles, such as excessive sweating, muscle spasms, migraines and even squints.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The procedure usually takes just a few minutes for each area. In most cases, it's possible to be in and out of the clinic in less than an hour.
What Is the Recovery Time for Botox?
As with any injection, you may experience localized reddening of the skin, swelling or bruising. However, this usually only lasts for a few days. Most people return to normal activities the day after the procedure, although it's best to avoid alcohol and excessive exercise until any noticeable side effects subside. Patients are also advised not to lie down for several hours after the procedure.
What Are the Risks Associated with Botox?
In the hands of an experienced clinician, Botox is a very safe procedure. However, if the injections aren’t administered correctly, you may run a small risk of the botulinum toxin spreading to other parts of the body causing botulism; or to nearby tissues causing problems such as a crooked smile or drooping eyelids.
This is another major reason to choose your clinic with care.
