Botox in Mexico

The ultimate guide to Botox in Mexico

Last fact-checked: 15 October 2020

One of the least expensive of all the cosmetic procedures, it's possible to undergo a course of Botox® in Mexico and save even more money.

While it isn’t going to be worth making a trip to Mexico specifically for treatment, if you are on vacation or a business trip then you might want to consider booking with us before heading home.

What Is Botox?

Botox the popular brand name for treatment that uses a type of botulinum toxin. This is used primarily to treat those signs of aging that appear on our face when we make expressions, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smoothing lines

Botox can also be useful in controlling hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) by temporarily blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands in the armpits, palms, feet or other localized areas.

Why Should I Consider Having Botox in Mexico?

Botox is a straightforward and simple treatment that can be performed in minutes – less than the time it takes to have your hair done! You can return from your trip looking much more relaxed and younger, and feeling more confident.

Contrary to the old-fashioned view of Mexico that healthcare is not up to standard, Mexico’s medical facilities have been described as very good to excellent and it is one of the world's most-visited countries for medical tourism.

Savvy North Americans from the United States and Canada have known this for years – and particularly Americans living in the southern States who think nothing of taking a trip over the border for lower-priced medical and dental procedures, as well as discounted pharmaceuticals.

Finding a Reputable Provider in Mexico with Medical Departures

While Mexico is popular for medical care, it is always worth checking out your practitioner thoroughly before you book to ensure their reliability. Unfortunately, it is the way of the world that there will always be someone trying to make a fast buck without having the necessary skills or qualifications, and who pay scant regard to the well-being of their clientele.

We vet our doctors and clinics, doing legal and criminal background checks, as well as verifying credentials, including professional memberships and qualifications. We also know that showing clinic photos and publishing real patient reviews goes a long way to reassuring patients that the clinic they have chosen is the right one for them.

What Is the Procedure for Botox and How Long Do the Effects Last?

You and your practitioner will decide which areas are to be treated. The procedure is to simply inject the Botox into the areas with a fine-needled syringe. The process is over in minutes.

Following treatment, do note that:

  • Botox recovery time should be a matter of hours, and you may have some redness, swelling or bruising at the injection sites.
  • If you have sensitive skin it may take one or two days before your skin returns to normal.
  • You may notice the effects on our wrinkles straight away as your muscles relax, but it may be a few weeks before the full effects are apparent.
  • Botox is a cumulative treatment, and the effects are generally better the more you have it done. The effects should last from three to five months.

What Is the Cost of Botox in Mexico Compared to the United States?

Prices vary depending on how many units of botox are used. In Mexico, the price is an average of $9 per unit, totaling around $540 (CAD $660, £350 GBP, €480, AUD $700) to do an area such as the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet.

In the United States, the same treatment would be around $720 (CAD $880; £460 GBP, €630, AUD $900) for the same three areas.
