Body Lift in Mexico

The ultimate guide to Body Lift in Mexico

Last fact-checked: 15 October 2020

This vast country offers a range of options for recuperation after your body lift in Mexico. From its astonishing coastlines to ancient historical cities, you’ll find clinics and surgeons listed on our site in a location that suits you.

This type of surgery is not to be taken lightly. It is a major undertaking, and you must be prepared to take it very easy for a number of weeks – and sometimes months – after your procedure.

Am I Suitable for a Body Lift in Mexico?

A body lift is usually a combination of procedures used to remove loose, sagging skin that has lost elasticity. This may have been caused by one or a number of factors, including:

  • Pregnancy
  • Drastic or fluctuating weight loss
  • Sun damage
  • Genetics

The procedure is generally suitable for sagging skin in these areas: the abdomen (including the sides and lower back), thigh, groin and buttocks. The treatment helps to improve cellulite and dimpled skin but is not suitable for removing fat, where liposuction is the preferred option (although many patients have a combination of both.

You must be in good health to be considered for a body lift. You should also note that you will have to spend some time in Mexico recuperating after surgery before you are well enough to travel home upon your surgeon's advice.

Why Have a Body Lift in Mexico?

Mexico’s diverse choice of locations offers plenty of choices – providing you choose a reputable surgeon and clinic. We have partnered with clinics in the country capital, coastal resorts, like Cancun and Playa del Carmen, as well as popular border cities such as Tijuana and Guadalajara.

Mexico’s lower cost-of-living means that overheads for rent, staff and materials are substantially less, which is why goods and services don’t cost anywhere near as much as they do north of the Border. Savvy North Americans worked this out long ago, and there is a growing stream of patients who travel here for treatments they either can’t afford or are unwilling to pay the prices for, at home.

Mexico has embraced medical and health tourism, and although the majority of patients are still from The Americas, people from much further afield also visit the world-renowned clinics here. Despite being a developing country, it has medical facilities to rival anywhere in the world, with the number of Joint Commission International (JCI) affiliated clinics located across the county a testament to Mexico’s standing as a provider of superior quality healthcare.

What Is Involved in a Body Lift?

A body lift procedure is tailored to each individual, depending on what particular areas you want your surgeon to concentrate on, so no two operations will be the same. In general, the surgery will take, on average, around 5 hours.

At your initial consultation, your expectations will be discussed and your surgeon will let you know what can be achieved.

For the actual body lift surgery:

  • You will be given a general anesthetic and the surgeon will remove the loose skin and underlying tissue in the areas you have agreed upon.
  • As large areas of sagging skin may have to be removed, it is likely that the incisions made will be long. However, most are made in an area where they can be hidden under clothes, for example, bikini bottoms.
  • Once the excess tissue is removed and wounds stitched, it is likely that you will have drainage tubes inserted to remove fluid away from your body.

What Is the Recovery Time for a Body Lift Procedure?

Essentially, you will be having surgery in a number of areas – so you will be stiff, sore and tender for a number of weeks, and the drainage tubes will make it uncomfortable when moving around; these are usually in place for a couple of weeks.

It is not recommended that you go back to work for a month, and should not be engaging in strenuous activities for at least six weeks.

It will be a couple of months before you feel completely better and up to a year before you have healed fully inside and out.
